..... owned by Howard Johansen and driven by Larry Dixon

The model was built from the 1/16th scale Keeling & Clayton California Charger kit .......... I used Competition Resins body panels and chute, scratch built an injector scoop to resemble the actual one, used the front canard wing from a Revell Fighting Irish kit (and simulated the wood on the original) .............. the paint is MCW Bright Orange lacquer, and the decals came from SLIXX

It was great fun ......... thanks for the motivation to get off my duff and build this kit ............ it's two months until the community build ends, can I build another ?

My rendition of the Howard Cams Rattler

That looks great John, very tidy indeed.

have you got a photo of it next to a standard measuring device so we can see the size, if it's not too much trouble.

p.s. looks like Bucks taking credit for it heh heh heh heh

Being an old mainframe computer programmer, the best reference item I have is my system stick which is 18 inches long .......... the model is nearly 16 inches in length.

....and I don't have a clue as to how Buck's name and avatar was attached to my post

That's a nice size, even more impressive.

Burroughs mainframe stacks eh, one of my customers ran a mainframe from them in Italy, it was labeled a "bull ascari" though.

I think when buck moved your thread into this one it got posted as his and not a "cut and paste"

Very nice. I like the color and graphics. This is a great version from the California Charger kit.

Since I am building the Keeling and Clayton version, I need to get on the stick and make some progress!!

That is exactly why my name is on it. I had to move it into the finished thread. Sorry about that.

finished and done, reasonably happy with it but am fed up with faffing and have a diorama to build.
conforms to the regs for santapod in the 70's (or as close as i can get a scale model)
the name of the car is a little play on words, the decals are what i sorted out from my spares, they're 70's style freaky, hip and groovy and will do for me (although won't be to everyones taste i suppose)

You did a nice job Colin....not sure about the graphics though but that's a personal thing.

I think you should ditch the body, change the tyres and get down to the Baja Peninsular. YeeeeeHaaaa!!!

Thanks chaps.

Al, the graphics are a bit tacky, I went for the cheesy 70s look, and they did OK in my mind for this group build but they'll be coming off and it'll be just a self colour, maybe a two colour metallic.

Or I could just lop the arches off and fit the off road wheels/tyres I have spare.

Paul it looks great. I like the stance and the way the body sits. Not to high in te back. The rear wheel well looks great.

The holes are there to relieve the pressure inside the body. On modern Funny Cars the rear taillights are hinged and swing away from the body to do the same thing. Hope this helps.

Thanks buck, I had an idea it may have been pressure related but thought I'd ask the question.

I didn't know about hinged tail lights on funnies. Holes also helped clear cockpits of some smoke from burnouts as cars backed up to the line. Hawaiian was (for good or ill) legendary in looks and wins. Fine work in carefully recreating it!!!!
