.... building this beast in a community build on another forum ............ an interesting subject as Ford only built 57 of these monsters .......... and all were painted Wimbledon White ............ the interiors were black(44), red(8), and tan(5) .......... I chose tan as it was the rarest ............ the engine in the cars was a medium riser big block 427 ............. here's what I have gotten accomplished so far

Very very nice, I sure didn't know they existed. I wonder if this could be the basis for any of the NASCAR racers (Andretti, etc) of the era? Looks like a pretty clean kit, free of major flash and sink marks. Thanx for sharing.

Great choice. I love those old factory muscle cars from before the term "muscle car" was used.

Message left on the forum where the Fairlane was part of a community build

"Sorry guys ............. I am withdrawing the '66 Fairlane from the community build ............. the only place that kit is going is in the trash .................. after getting both the chassis and the body completed and ready for final assembly, I find out that the chassis assembly is almost 3/16" too long for the body ............ with the chassis lined up with the wheelwells, the entire chassis unit sticks out so far that the headlight and grille unit doesn't come close to fitting .............. if I move the chassis to where the grille will fit, the tires and wheels are jammed against the rear of the wheelwells and the rear of the chassis protrudes out the rear of the body so far as to keep the rear bumper from mating up properly .................... I no longer have the modeling expertise nor the patience to deal with this type of ill fitting AMT crap ................ I'll go back to building my race cars and leave these showroom stocks to you guys with more expertise than I possess"

I wouldn't recommend this kit to anyone except those who enjoy frustration

That's a pity....actually, I have one of these models in my collection, but it was built over 10 years ago.
I'll have to check it out...wherever it is.
I have always said, having fun is the priority of model building, otherwise it becomes just hard work.
If it is giving you grief, you do well to discard it and go onto something you can enjoy.
But I agree, there is nothing worse than wasting valuable time getting so far into a model, only to find insurmountable problems.

That's a shame, it was a nice looking build.
