PostSubject: Tamiya Mini Cooper, modified to Ministox.   Tue 25 Mar - 14:44

Just picked this up nice and cheap (£10)

Asked my partner if she had any ideas as what to do with it and she said "Ministox", we then reminisced about watching these Minis belting around a simple track with youngsters at the wheel ... very entertaining.

Few progress shots.
Got the headlights and grill plated over,

started on the paneling on the chassis interior, i've sliced off the passenger seat brackets ready for the checker plating to go down

wheels painted, engine started and battery / dizzy wired up.

Hints tricks advice very welcome as cars aren't one of my strong points.

Not being really into cars i dont have any spare rims to put on this, maybe in the future when i get into it and maybe have some after market bits knocking around.

Forgive my blasphemy this time

It's not the rims that look odd to me Colin, just the colour.

No reason why they shouldn't be red!, just that I have never seen them in anything else except natutal alloy or more usually black and alloy.

I had a good look-see on Google and saw endless types of steel and alloy rims in all colours,  I thought for my first attempt I'd just delve in and give it a freaky paint job,  it'll be lime green,  white roof with red "bull bar"  scaffolding and red wheels.

It looks like a lot of the lower ranking cars are still hand painted with some graphics,  I'll try and replicate that.

I might get this kit again and do it as per an original colour scheme as I'm really enjoying putting it together.

Until one has seen the real thing, it's impossible to believe how small they were. I remember seeing a film clip of the Beatles driving around in one, heads and arms outside and waving. Thanx!

They were small, and it felt like you were doing twice the speed as they were so nippy and low to the ground.

Heres where i'm at with the interior, got the battery in and wired, plating is in place.

That's looking great Colin.

What did you use for the checker plate and cable tie downs?

They're cut offs from medication strips,  the flat bits between the bubbles that hold the tablets,  not sure if they are all the same but these look the part I think.

You blokes on the other side of the Atlantic (or Pacific in my case) will hafta get used to it............
Mind you I wish Australia drove on the 'wrong' side of the road.

And,Colin, great tip re the 'checker plate'. Not sure where I'll use it but it's filed away.

Thanks for the comments ...

Petrol tank in and plumbed, radiator pipe on, some basic seat belts (not sure if i like them ..opinions welcome), about half the wiring and plumbing done in under the bonnet (hood :)) (the cable looks so much thicker in the photo than it does to the naked eye)

Thoughts, opinions, critisism as always welcome
