PostSubject: I'm starting a new diorama shortly................   Mon 03 Mar 2014, 7:04 pm

I'm starting a new dio shortly. It's going to be a combination of these five kits:

MiniArt Shed With Wooden Fence

ICM Opel Kadet

British Light Utility Car. (Tilley)

Mirror Models Indian motorcycle

Italeri Field Tool Shop

The young boy on the left from this kit. Kindly supplied by member on another site:

And these two figures from MK35 Editions

The garage owner:

The garage owners father:

Also I'll have one of these for a single petrol pump:

Verlinden Gas Pump

May even include one of these two:

My last attempt at a garage dio was in 1:25 scale, and I realise now was way too big. Got overfaced with it and it stalled very badly.

This one is all in 1:35th and fits in a 36cm x 29cm space. Nice and compact.

Might call it something like 'Mile End Garage'

It will be set in or just outside an English rural village during the late forties/early fifties.

The Kadet will be an WWII surplus car, set just inside the garage doors, probably in a state of being re-sprayed into civilian colours.

The Tilley, will be also be ex WWII but will be the garage owners vehicle and already be re-sprayed in some civilian colour.

The Indian motorcycle will again be ex WWII but still in olive drab. It will have the young boy looking longingly at it.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

The only suggestion I have is "get started".

Looks like you have a well thought out plan. I can't wait to see it start to come together.

Hmmm, I like a scene that shows action "frozen in time," so anyone working on something is good. If possible some mechanical pieces that seem to be coming off or going on to something. With vehicles there's always an opportunity to have a wheel off and axle up on a jack stand. Either a flat tire to be worked on or work to the brakes. Cloths wrinkled and dirty nearby. Cycle could be for sale. There's always action around a service station and with people in the picture a lot of possible placements. It will be something, that's certain!
Re: 1/25th scale being too large, I did a rear engine dragster with people and work going on in 1/16th I think. That's a large display. The Formula One cars in 1/12th take up table tops!

They're just the sort of suggestions I was after Harron. Many thanks.I'll be using some for sure and definitely the ''Bike for sale' one. That's a neat touch methinks.

I didn't mean to imply that 1/25th dios were too large, just that with a foot print of almost a square yard, mine was!!

Thanks again.

Looking forward to this, Skid.
Interior of that shed, alone, would be perfect for a 'Barn find'.

Hi Al,

If possible you could have the lad using/holding a yard brush, on his way to starting an apprenticeship, that's how I started off when I first worked in a garage, brushing the floors and cleaning the tools...

Andy...

Like your collection of ingredients. Have used some of the Masterbox figures myself and they are well sculpted, makes painting easy. The open concept for the garage will pay dividends for the clutter you can stuff in there. And, yes, 1/25 dios can end up being real estate nightmares.......Keep going!
Cheers Eh!

Looks like a great plan Al.
The diorama seems to have it all - buildings, vehicles, figures, weathering, etc., etc.
I hope there will be a story attached to the finished display ?

I liked Andy's idea of the young boy holding a brush. So much so, I just had to make one!!! LOL

The bristles are made from cardboard, which give a bit of texture to them.
