Rare Attic Find

An elderly neighbour sadly died a few months ago, and as a fellow car enthusiast he would often pop over for a chat,
and give me a couple of his old car magazines - usually from the 1970’s.
A few days ago, his widow called to say that she had found a box of old motoring magazines while clearing the attic, and did I want them,
and of course I happily agreed to take them. It was a large box, with mainly ‘70’s classic car stuff, but deep amongst them
were 35 old British ‘Autocar’ magazines dating from 1946 to the early 1950’s.
They are not pristine, but are an echo of past times when Britain’s motor industry supplied cars mostly for export
with very few new cars entering the UK market.
The magazines are filled with cars advertised at prices I could buy now with the change I have in my pocket.
There is even one issue from 1952 that has a two-page article on Hot Rodding.
They are from times when only the rich bought new, and self repair was the order of the day on vehicles that were often over 20 years old.
My first car was a black Lanchester 10 that I had briefly whilst at Art College when I was 18 and didn’t have a full driving licence.
I brush painted whitewalls on the tyres and it was the same age as me !

Curt - You young wippersnapper, I'm not that old - yet ! Memories indeed !

but yes, they do bring memories of old pre-war cars on uncongested roads when I was a lad.
The excitement of seeing a bright NEW car gleaming among the old Black, Maroon or Bottle Green British cars of the 1950's.
Funny how I can remember years ago - but can't remember what I did a week ago.
Yes, along with our modelling hobby and those old mags, my winter months are sorted.

Lots of toilet reading there. And great that they've gone to a good home.
