Dan...that looks way to small for me to attempt.  I'm glad you're doing it.

Steve...I'd like to see it beside a Tamiya jar also....hard to get a handle on how big it is. And I'll try to do the speeder justice.

Sorry Al, I like the race bike position.  Both of the chopper positions look awkward, but it is a drone, so they wouldn't know any better. But I do like the stoogie.

I've been cleaning up parts and clamping assemblies together.

As requested, pics with universal scale measuring device. This model scales out at 1:26000.

Paul, your pics have reminded me why my speeder was never finshed. Those grand canyon sized gaps where too much for a teenage glue bomber.

Steve...the gaps are a little large in places...LOL

The instructions called for most things to be semi-black, but to keep it from becoming to bland, I've been painting the various pieces in Testor's metalizers.

The rider is almost done.  Getting the seams to disappear between the two halves has been fun .....prime...sand....prime....sand...prime...lol

It's looking good Steve. Good luck with the decals.

Good call on the colours Paul and good work on the seams too.

I got to work on paint too and also changed up the colour. I thought I'd give it a somewhat weather worn look with some pre-shading. Being pristine wouldn't do for a stogie smoking hard bitten sergeant now would it?

First was grey primer. This was followed by matt black paint along all the angles and panel lines. (I'd have liked finer lines but I really don't know how to do that)

Next was to fill in all the grey primer bits with the final colour. This was followed by spraying the final colour all over, working slowly with mist coats so as not to obscure all the black.

It's by no means perfect but I'm pleased enough with it for a first attempt.

The STAP gun turret got the same treatment only in a different colour:

I forgot to add some weight in the rear, to try and get it to sit right without using the base.

Oh well! The sun will still rise tomorrow!!

This is how it's looking at the moment. The droid is held on the STAP only with a bit of BluTac on his derriere. LOL

The head needs the long slender neck attached yet.

For sense of scale:

That is one large scale SF model. A shame they didn't mold in some more interesting details you could highlight. Looks like a few hoses, wires or cables somewhere would bring it more to life. Excellent idea to have the creature just tacked onto the machine, makes fo easier storage or moving later on or redoing something in the future. Great start on the com-bild !!

Man that thing is huge. Looks cool. I agree some more detail on that big of model would have been nice.

LOL....... you forget this thing is from 'A Galaxy, far, far away' where wires and cables etc are a thing of the ancient past!!!

For a couple of years now, I have been procrastinating on using washes and pigments to weather the odd piece of armour and cars, so......

.......I decided a few days ago that I'd have a go at making this old seargeant look somewhat ancient and nearing the end of it's useful life. So I'm having a go using some MIG pigments and washes.

First I created some 'chipping' with the aid of Tamiya Metallic Grey Paint and a piece of sponge rubber. A variation on 'dry brushing'

Next, MIG 'Streaking Grime' was applied to the panel lines. When dry, I applied some MIG Thinners For Washes (not shown) to blend it in.

When that was dry, I brushed on some MIG Light Rust and Old Rust pigment powders in a random pattern.

Then I applied some MIG Pigment Fixer to blend it in and fix it in place and when that was dry, I used a sof but stiffish, clean paint brush to again blend things together.

Thanks both.

I have the head and neck finished now and most of the torso done to.

Now I see it in the photos, I think I have over done it some, (yes I know, 'less is more'... LOL) so I may see if I can tone it down some.

Still, it's a learning curve and I'm pleased enough with it for my first attempt at working with pigments and washes.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The main thing is if you tone it down to much you can put some back on.

That's looking pretty good for a droid with a rough long life. If you keep it that way is there a way you could give it a couple dents without too much work?

Great work, Al. Good to see you "soldier-ing" on with this build..... I'm sorry
The preshading worked very well indeed, I've never had much faith in it previously, but you've really made it work and with all the pigments, washes and weathering.

Nice start, Paul. That kit is a lot bigger than I thought and I agree on the subject of Metalizers over sg black.

Steve, nice to see yours coming together and another big build too.

With work recently, this is the only build I've made time for. It's refreshing being able to sit down at the bench, pick up model, paints and brush and begin almost immediately, no setting up, preparing or planning. As such, I have made some progress, chiefly around the fabric padding for the armour straps. Painted solely with Humbrol and Tamiya acrylics, dark brown underneath, some tan highlighting and an olive wash for discolouration and to break the monotony of all the browns.
Some lines to be tidied up, then it's onto the skin, for a lighter shade of top coat. More soon

Thanks guys.

Whoa! Dan, your work is paying off handsomely. He's looking great. Can't wait to see what he looks like when you've done the flesh.

Doh!! never thought of that Denis. Too late now though. Anyway, I'm having fun just with the pigments and washes.

Thanks, Al. took a break to put a first coat of skin top colour on yesterday.
Also started I'm happy with the first draft. The skin as you see it is just a rough first coat, lots of smoothing out to be done, but I wanted to get the first coat down and use a darker brown in the creases befor puting another coat over the top. I'm also not sure about whether to keep the breastplate or leave it off. as you see it, it is held on by no more than friction. I'm not sure whether it adds to the overall appearance or if it makes him look too wide.
More to come later today hopefully.

Pretty interesting so far. I wasn't expecting a lot from this idea, mostly space vehicles. Instead I'm seeing living and robotic creatures too. Very nice and good lessons in weathering apply to other modeling. Thanx to all for increasing the vistas of building from the quarter mile, to Bonneville, to the stars.

I think it looks good both ways. With and without the breast plate.

He's looking good Dan although I think he looked better without the flesh tone.

Either way on the breast plate.

Sergeant Droid is now finished apart from his stripes.

Here he is mocked up on the modified STAP.

I think this will answer your question Buck... LOL.

Stage one.

Can't have a junker Master Sergeant droid on a brand new STAP now can we!!!!

Dan - Wow! That looks terrific and mean too!

Al - You'll dent the next one. You've done a great job of the Droid and STAP!
