PostSubject: Digger Dragster   Fri 16 Aug 2013, 10:14 pm

I started this one way back in October 2011 but for reasons I now forget, it got abandoned.

I've had a rough week one way or another and I'm not really in the mood to continue with the Brabham BT44, and with two group builds starting on Sept 1st, now seems a good time to get back to it.

This is the kit, which Buck kindly sent me earlier in 2011:

Not just the common box version but the Tin Box version. nice!!

Two models can be built from a combination of three. Actualy, looking at the kit, I'm certain, with just a little help from the parts box, three models can be built. Anyway, for now, I'm going for a single engine open rail car. The middle of the three drawings.

The main body is in two pieces with a rather ugly seam line. Hard to see in the photo I know but it is there:

The chassis is a four piece affair, went together well and cleans up nicely. Just a tad more to clean, now it's got some primer on it:

I've heard of one guy cutting and re-gluing the chassis, in order to get it into the completed and painted body. That seemed like a lot of work to me, so with a little jiggery pokery, I found out, that it is possible to get the chassis in without resorting to cutting.

Got some paint laid.

Base white on the body and 'anodized' blue on the chassis:

Haven't yet finally decided on the engine choice yet. Possibly going for the 'double V'.... (side by side V8.) with twin blower set up!!

The kit has two frames. One for the twin engine and one for the single engine. Not sure which one you have painted. it looks really good. Like that shade of blue.

I've not painted either yet Buck.

That's what the instructions show Buck but trial fitting shows it's pretty much 'mix and match'.

Thanks for the HU though.

Those are nice kits Al, looks like your off to a great start on yours! What about a single engine with a scratchbuilt gearbox driven off the front of the crankshaft with a PAIR of scot blowers with each one dumping into some piping and dumping into some stacks on top of the intake? Just an idea I thought would look cool. Can't wait to see what you do with this one

I luv the "Double..." kit and always thought it would be good for a community build. I'm old enuf to have built it way back when! BTW, frame gets wide in front of the body, so it's looks to be for the side-by-side engine racer. Good luck!

That would be really cool Chris but I don't want this one to get too complicated as it needs to be off the bench by Sept 1st.

I have a roller. Not hard to tell which way I'm going engine wise now!!! LOL
